When writing about the best of anything, there must be criteria. What exactly qualifies a business to be among the top five and what exactly are they the top five of?  Top producing? Best prices? Top quality? Best warranty?

With the help of Beyond Group’s Concrete Lifting Project Manager, Adam Dickinson, we dug into which concrete lifting companies in Calgary are deemed “the best.”

Full disclosure: artificial intelligence was used to make this list. A top five list would require loads of research, and quite frankly we don’t have that much time on our hands.

So, let’s get into it!

Using AI to help navigate what makes a concrete lifting company one of the best, we came up with a list of these seven criteria:

1. Technical Skills and Processes

2. Foam Quality

3. Diagnostics

4. Proven Results

5. Warranty and Accountability

6. Commercial Credibility

7. Pricing Transparency

Technical Skills and Processes

Do they know what they're doing? Can they lift properly and stabilize the area, and not just pump it out and pray that they're doing a good job?

Foam Quality

What is their foam material quality like? Do they use proper structural foam? Is it just a cheap imported product? What is the reputation of their foam material, and, by extension, the foam manufacturer?

Diagnostics

Are they able to identify the root cause of the issue? Or do they just come in and start working? There’s also risk control to consider. What is the company’s protocol for dealing with any hazards or consequences that may arise?

Proven Results

What is their reputation? What do past reviews say? Do they have before and after pictures to show their success? Can they do the job I need them todo?

Warranty and Accountability

Does the company have clear terms of warranty? Will they honor post-work call backs, or will they ghost me?

Commercial Credibility

Do they have trained employees? Proper equipment?  Are they insured? Do they have a professional structured list of standard operating procedures and safe work practices?

Pricing Transparency

Do they have a clear quote structure? Is there anything vague about the cost? Will I know what I’m paying for with just a single number attached to a quote and no details?

The Top 5... Drum Roll Please!

Using these criteria (tailored towards concrete lifting, of course) here are, in no particular order, the top five concrete lifting companies in Calgary:

Renegade HM services

A multi-service company, Renegade has experience in hazardous material abatement, spray foam insulation and concrete lifting

Concrete Experts

We have a good relationship with Concrete Experts, in fact, at times we've traded materials with them when we haven't had what we needed in time or vice versa. Concrete Experts offer concrete lifting with foam, but will also replace it, a key difference from us at Beyond.

Poly-mor

Touted as the first ever polyurethane foam concrete lifting company in Canada, Poly-mor started right here in Alberta and is now a nationally recognized company that specializes in concrete lifting and leveling across Canada.

Poly Boss

A local company, with a Rhino logo, Poly Boss does residential and commercial work.

Beyond Group

Scouts honor we did not put ourselves on this list. We are honored to make the top five concrete lifting companies in Calgary.

Same Differences?

Every concrete lifting company will have a bit of their own mixed bag of services. Some are strictly into concrete lifting; others also do spray foam or concrete work. Many will offer multiple services.

Concrete experts would be considered a full-service concrete company, as opposed to a exclusively polyurethane foam repair. Their offerings also include maintenance, restoration, and replacement.

Renegade HM’s focus is on three things: abatement (hazardous materials),spray foam insulation, and concrete lifting. They also do water damage restoration and building disinfection.

Poly-mor does strictly concrete lifting with polyurethane foam, which includes filling voids, stabilizing soil and sealing leaks.

Poly Boss’ only focus is on concrete, with lifting stabilizing and void filling expertise as well as sealing, repairing and curb replacement services.

"mixed bag of services"

Why Are We Listing Our Competition?

Beyond Group is fast growing so why would we want to highlight similar companies?

In Adam’s words, “We don’t see other concrete lifting companies as people we’re trying to beat. We might have a friendly bid, and that’s normal is this industry, but there's no ill will towards anyone else.

“We're all trying to achieve the same thing, which is trying to strive to really help our clients with their concrete problems and take pride in that.  I can only hope that everyone else is doing what we're trying to do, and that’s to constantly try to get better, constantly learn, and find out what's the best way to do our job.

“Concrete lifting is not a perfect science. Things can easily go sideways if you're not careful, if you don't have the experience or if you're not willing to put in that level of effort to try and treat a project like it was your own property.”

Final Thoughts on Naming the Best and AI

Having 8 years in the industry, Adam thought he’d know all these companies pretty well, but one wasn’t on his radar. Adam was also surprised that some companies he knew did not make the list. Recognizability wasn’t a benchmark, so it’s nota bad thing.

AI is still very new and without knowing what algorithms it used to surmise these top five companies, so our list isn’t firm, and it doesn’t necessarily mean these are the best of the best.

We don’t know how subjective or trustworthy AI is, or if it’s just telling us what we want to hear - and we’ve all probably heard of examples where it’s blatantly obvious there’s a bias.

Did AI actually come up with this list using its own criteria? Who knows? Maybe these top five companies have an amazing marketing team or are endorsed by a figurehead.

Either way, AI is just a vehicle we used to come up with this list. It’s a good starting point for research into your own project and needs. And of course, at Beyond Group, we’re happy to chat about that too!
